During the cold/flu season, Nurse Sabrina teaches the children the importance of hygiene and proper hand washing with a fun activity. Using Glitter Bug germ simulator lotion and a black light, the children can “see” the germs on their hands! First, the kids put the lotion on their hands and look under the black light at all of the germs. Then, they wash their hands for 20 seconds (or sing Happy Birthday song twice) with soap, warm water and a lot of scrubbing. After washing hands, they look under the black light again to see where the lotion resides (and the germs!). It teaches the kids where germs stick and how crucial it is to properly wash our hands.
