February 2019

February 1st, 2019
Hello Hosmer Community,

February is here and with it comes colder temperatures, conferences, and winter vacations.

Please make sure your child comes to school with a warm coat, gloves, boots, and a hat or hood. We will go outside whenever possible and we don't want your child to miss out by not having the right gear.

We have an early release day scheduled for Tuesday February 5th for parent-teacher conferences. Students will be dismissed at 12:15 so please be prompt if you are picking up as teachers will be occupied with conferences and are not available to watch children.

Registration is open for Grade 4/5 Book Club! The dates will be the following four Thursdays: February 28, March 7, March 14, and March 21 (snow date of March 28). A Watertown Public librarian will read Pashmina, a graphic novel, with the students and lead activities based on it. The sessions run from school dismissal time until 3:30pm. You can either pick up your child at 3:30pm, or staff can shepherd them right to Extended Day. If interested, please submit the green registration form to your child's teacher (email Laura Daly at lauramaclaughlin@yahoo.com if you need a form) by Friday, February 15. First come, first served.

Once again the Hosmer community pulled together to help others with a food drive. There is a drop off in donations after the holiday season so this is a good time to try to help as much as you can. The PTO delivered about 3-4 grocery carts' worth to the food pantry and they were so grateful. We are still collecting for another week, too, until Friday, February 8, so people can keep the donations coming!

Finally, February vacation begins on February 16th and ends on February 23rd. We understand that prices go up for trips at this time of year but we ask that you not take vacation outside of designated times. Your child will miss out on the scope and sequence of our curriculum and even if you work on academics, it is not the same as being in school. Those days will not be excused.

As always, thank you for the opportunity to serve as the Hosmer School Principal. It is the greatest job in the world!

Mr. LaRoche
