November 2018

November 26th, 2018
Hello Hosmer Community,

We have entered the last week of November and I have to say the month has flown by. Our staff will be working hard to regain the focus and momentum that was built over the past couple of months for this four week stretch until the next break.

As part of their community outreach, the Hosmer Girls on the Run team is collecting coats to contribute to the Coats for Kids drive at the middle school. They are well on their way to their goal, which is to contribute 100 coats. Please bring in your gently used coats any size from infant to XXL by this Friday 11/30. There is a marked collection bin in the foyer by the main entrance. Thank you for your help!

The book fair is coming starting Tuesday November 27th and will go through Friday November 30th. Parent night is Thursday the 29th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This is a nice way to purchase a good book for your child or for gifts to others and will help the PTO raise money for school related events.

Thursday November 29th is also an early release day with dismissal at 12:15 PM. The purpose of this early release is to schedule conferences with your child's teacher. Please ensure that arrangements are made for child care on this day as sometimes we have students sitting in the office wondering where their parent is :)

As you may have heard, Watertown Public Schools is trying out a visitor management system called Raptor. This is a trial run to see if this program fits the needs of Watertown and involves a little more diligence in checking identification of visitors to the school. Our usual practice is for visitors to show an ID at the door and sign in on a clipboard. Raptor allows us to run the same ID through a scanner and it prints a label for the visitor and the destination within the school. The Hosmer School and Watertown Middle School are the pilot schools and I will keep you updated on the progress of the system throughout the trial.

Thank you to our excellent PTO for their work on the fund raising Fun Run. It was a successful venture and has made it possible to fund some great things for our school.

It is an honor serving as the Principal of the Hosmer School and being a small part of the development and growth of the children entrusted to us.

Thank you,

Bob LaRoche
