December 2018

December 18th, 2018
Hello Hosmer Community,

We are wrapping up the final days of 2018 and like most of you, looking forward to some much needed rest. I have just a few points to touch upon and don't worry, it will not cost anything!

In their continuing efforts to support additional activities and purchases for the school, the PTO will be running a Box Tops challenge. We ask that you send in the bar codes from common packaging like tissue boxes to your child's teacher. Each classroom will tally their collection and a mystery prize will be waiting for the group that collects the most box tops. Typically the winners choose things like pajama day, extra recess, etc. The challenge starts immediately and will continue through the beginning of the new year.

"Announcing another session of Book Club for Hosmer grade 1 students!" The dates will be the following four Wednesdays in 2019: January 9, 16, 23, and 30, with a snow date of Wednesday, February 6. A Watertown Public librarian will read different picture books to students every week and lead an activity based on them. The sessions run from school dismissal time until 3:30pm. You can either pick up your child at 3:30pm in the connector, or staff can shepherd them right to Extended Day. If interested, please email Laura Daly at lauramaclaughlin@yahoo.com for a registration form by Thursday, December 20. Availability is very limited; first come, first served but preference will be given to students who did not participate in the fall Book Club session.

You may want to clear your schedule on Thursday December 20th to attend the Hosmer School Chorus Winter Concert. The show starts at 8:35 AM and if you are taking a sibling, please just bring them directly to the show. Doors open at 8:15 AM.

We have a full day of school on Friday December 21, 2018 and will reopen on Wednesday January 2, 2019.

I hope that you are able to enjoy this time with your children and keep their inquisitive minds active during the break. Please encourage them to read at least 20 minutes per day and to stay active. We have had a case or two of the flu this month and those folks wisely chose to stay home to recuperate.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the Principal of the Hosmer School, the best job anyone would want!

Sincerely,

Bob LaRoche
